life...take three

received my first AARP card in the mail a few days ago
not sure whether to gloat over the movie discounts now available to me or weep over the rapid passing of my youth
a popular yiddish saying tells us that "the days are long, but the years are short"
it might seem that this is an oxymoron at its finest
but anyone who has stayed at home with three amazing infants, seen them through their "terrible two's" , scrubbed the tiny toilets at their cooperative socialization group, baked thousands of gluten and peanut free baked goodies, hosted multitudes of play groups that resembled lord of the flies interactions more than good clean fun will realize that it couldnt be closer to the truth
im thrilled that my high school senior is excited to go far off into her future, elated that my 14 year old has started sprouting something between his nasal cavity and dental orifice that is not dirt, and blessed to have seen my youngest enter his "double digit" years
what fun will the movie discount be if i dont have three little bags with beverages and healthy snacks stuffed into my coat pockets in the middle of the summer ?
whom will i hold over the toilet bowl so their royal behinds dont touch down ?
will i be able to make sense of a film without the distractions of one of the angels kicking the seat in front of them, returning to the bathroom, crawling on the floor for the precious lost trinket ?
im not really sure
so for now i think i will tuck the AARP card into my change purse in the unlikely event i find myself brave enough to break out with it
